TOWN OF SAXEVILLE, WAUSHARA COUNTY, WISCONSIN

Town Board Meeting – 1/21/2008

Notice for the meeting was posted at the dump, the town hall, the Leon-Saxeville Library, published in the Waushara Argus and on the Town’s web site. All officers were present. Visitors included Sheriff Petersen, Dave Harris, Scott & Bonnie Hecker and Dee and Jack Hartmann. Chairman Petersen called the meeting to order at 8:10 PM.

The Clerk’s report of the meeting minutes from December 17, 2007 was read. Motioned by Supervisor Timm, seconded by Supervisor Lind to accept the minutes as read.  Voice vote, all in favor, motion carried. The Treasurer’s report from December 2007 was read. The certificate of deposit will be allowed to automatically renew on Jan 26, 2008 in order to receive the highest interest rate. Motioned by Chairman Petersen, seconded by Supervisor Timm to accept the report as read.  Voice vote, all in favor, motion carried.

Sheriff Petersen congratulated Chairman Petersen on his appointment to the County Board. The sheriff mentioned several burglaries in the PoySippi and Tustin areas involving a small red truck and a white car. The snowmobile patrol is working the trails, looking for operators who are intoxicated or trespassing. There was a discussion about water patrol on Long Lake.  Saxeville didn’t participate in 2007 and Springwater was going to opt out for 2008.  The Sheriff was going to seek help from the county law enforcement committee and perhaps the Lakes Association.  Senior citizens are invited to a February 5, 2008 event at the courthouse that would touch on several areas in circuit court, the clerk of courts, department of justice and the sheriff’s department.

Dave Harris complained about snowmobiles running down 2nd St; it is unsafe for the many children in the area.  He also asked for a safety patrol for the fisheree on Kusel Lake.

         UNFINISHED BUSINESS

1.      Roads – There is another safety issue; many are not stopping at the intersection of CtyAE & TT. That will be addressed at the county safety meeting.  The responsible towns are plowing Twin Lake Rd.  TRIP monies are still not decided; there could be a 5 way split this year.  The Towns of Saxeville and Tustin have agreed on the road care for the ½ mile on each side of Cty M. Brian Glatz has repaired the road sander.

2.      Town Hall Rentals – There are upcoming rentals scheduled by the fire department and others for February.

3.      County Zoning Committee – The committee made several decisions: a. the blacksmith shop in Saxeville was granted a zone change to general commercial, b. the cell tower was approved for the original spot on Russ Meyer’s property, c. the Penterman variance was approved for ATV sales and service, no riding of vehicles.

4.      There was no other unfinished business.

 NEW BUSINESS

1.      Length of Service Award Program – for Saxeville/Springwater Fire Department – Chairman Petersen received the information for three extra firefighters who qualify for the program.  The extra premiums were remitted.

2.      Scott and Bonnie Hecker inquired about a zone change for property located on Co Hwy A, between Pine and Willow St, to be used for a public service business.  Chairman Petersen directed them to the County Zoning committee.

3.      Dee and Jack Hartman asked to use the town hall for a family rummage sale on Feb 22 & 23.  Dee offered references to check on, and promised to leave the hall in good clean condition.  Motioned by Supervisor Lind, seconded by Supervisor Tiimm to allow Hartmans to use the town hall for a family rummage sale on Feb 22 & 23.  Voice vote, all in favor, motion carried.

4.      Dee Hartman asked about being able to pay taxes at the town hall.  Treasurer Seefelt and the Board explained that that hasn’t been practiced for several years; taxes are requested to be paid by mail with check or money order.  It is not practical to haul the whole computer system to the hall several times in a tax collection season.  The hall is not a secure location for one person to receive such large amounts of money.  All taxes payments are receipted by mail in a timely fashion.

5.      Dave Harris complained about the snowplowing on his road.  Big piles of snow were rolled up and no sand had been applied. Chairman Peterson said he would discuss the matter with Brian Glatz, who is in charge of the plowing in that area.

6.      There was no other new business.

The bills were presented for payment and the Clerk was instructed to pay them.

The next meeting was set for Monday, February 18, 2008, 8 PM at the town hall.

Motioned by Supervisor Timm, seconded by Supervisor Timm to adjourn the meeting at 9:55 PM. Voice vote, all in favor, motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,
Virginia Cartwright,   Town Clerk
